ARL to showcase benefits of Build to Rent to local authorities with new Leeds Study Tour

  • Local authorities invited to join free Study Tour on 22nd May 2024
  • Participants will visit 2 BTR schemes in Leeds and join industry round table event
  • New Study Tour follows resounding success of previous Leeds event

Build to Rent (BTR) is one of the fastest growing residential property sectors in the UK. Supporting this rapid growth, the Association for Rental Living (ARL) is inviting local authorities to discover BTR in action in Leeds at the upcoming ARL Study Tour.

The number of local authorities that have granted permission for BTR developments or had projects in the planning pipeline has doubled in the past five years, rising from 100 to over 200, according to Savills. Implemented thoughtfully, BTR homes can sit at the heart of urban regeneration, helping build new communities and providing much-needed quality new homes. The dedicated ARL Leeds Study Tour for local authorities has been designed to showcase how this can be done.

Formerly known as the UKAA, the ARL represents all institutionally backed, professionally managed purpose-built rental living sectors, including urban and suburban single-family and multi-family rental. With around 102,000 BTR homes completed to date (Savills), the ARL is engaging with local government to demonstrate the benefits that BTR schemes can deliver.

The ARL Study Tour is free to attend and only available to local authority representatives. It will be hosted by the ARL in Leeds, Yorkshire’s biggest city, with one of the largest stocks of BTR apartments in the UK, with 3,200 homes spread across 10 communities, according to Cortland Consult.

Held in collaboration with the UK’s Real Estate Investment and Infrastructure Forum (UKREiiF), the ARL Study Tour will take place from 2pm on Wednesday 22nd May, with participants touring two BTR developments – Dandara Living’s Leodis Square and Native Residential’s The Junction – before joining a roundtable event with fellow industry peers. It follows the enormously successful ARL Leeds Study Tour held in September 2023.

Limited places are available for the ARL Study Tour, with bookings secured on a first come, first served basis. Local authority staff can book online for free to reserve their places at the event. Those who do will benefit from discovering BTR homes first-hand, glean insights into securing BTR investment and developing a crucial understanding of how Build to Rent schemes can unlock the full potential of urban regeneration by serving as an anchor tenant.

We are delighted to be working with local government in many parts of the UK already and to have the opportunity to establish further invaluable connections with this new Study Tour. BTR can deliver extensive results for local authorities and their residents. We look forward to providing a taster of this in Leeds and to supporting local authorities to maximise the outcomes that BTR schemes can deliver.
