UKAA review of 2023 and look ahead to 2024
The UKAA has established itself as the leading presence within the rapidly growing UK Build to Rent (BTR) market, with a membership covering the whole sector, including investors, developers, operators, contractors, advisors, consultants and suppliers. Membership currently stands at 330 organisations reaching 4,500 professionals operating in BTR and beyond.
Since formation in 2016, the UKAA has established a strong reputation for the high quality of its events, webinars and conferences, and the networking and information sharing opportunities that these offer. We first serve our members, but also provide value and a voice to the wider BTR ecosystem.
UKAA achievements
In 2023, we have increased the visibility of UKAA as being the voice of BTR, contributing to a range of Government consultations on issues such as rental reform, second staircases and the Building Safety Levy, promoting the role of BTR in delivering quality new homes, and leading the sector response to Selective Licensing across local authorities.
The UKAA has formed a number of new working groups that have made great progress in data sharing and Whole Life Costing, as well as bringing together investors in suburban BTR with housebuilders to establish mutual understanding.
We re-structured the categories of membership in 2023, to make membership more relevant to each segment, and to create forums and content to meet their needs. Successful groups are now active for investors/funders, operators, suppliers and new groups will form in the future.
We also delivered an extensive events programme: the Expo trade show which welcomed over 500 delegates and the flagship Annual BTR Conference which has been recognised as the sector-leading conference with a level of content and intellectual thinking not seen in the plethora of commercially-driven events.
In addition, in-person Study Tours were held in Leeds, Edinburgh and Glasgow along with 30+ webinars, five reverse trade shows, six drinks receptions and five roundtable events – collectively attracting over 4,000 attendees across 2023.
The future
In 2024 you will see a re-positioning and re-branding of the UKAA to reflect the breadth of the BTR sector which we represent. Our goal is to be a recognised as an influential, sector specific institution, that promotes all facets of the BTR sector. We will continue to increase the level of lobbying on behalf of the BTR sector, addressing the issues that impact the development of BTR homes.
We will promote the quality and high standards of the BTR sector, introducing a BTR Code of Practice to be recognised by Government and local authorities, and differentiating BTR from the broader PRS.
The working groups, hubs and committees give you the opportunity to help shape the future growth of the sector, support the sharing of best practice.
We will continue to promote and share BTR sector data and best practice and deliver insightful events that address future issues with high level speakers and content.
We will continue to provide our members with opportunities to promote themselves to the wider BTR sector with an extensive events programme and through the UKAA Newsbuzz enews.
