The UKAA (the UK Apartment Association) Annual Build to Rent Conference & Industry Awards held on 15thNovember 2022 has been hailed as a major success, both for individual attendees and the Build to Rent (BTR) sector as a whole.

The extent of the knowledge sharing at the event, under the umbrella theme of ‘the pursuit of excellence’, was impressive. Keynote speaker Nero Ughwujabo (Senior Strategy Adviser – Equality, Diversity and Inclusion for the Prince’s Trust and Prince’s Trust Group) set the tone with his focus on EDI globally before a wide variety of other speakers took up the baton. They included RIBA President-Elect Muyiwa Oki as the sustainability keynote speaker, Ark’s David Hills discussing The Building Safety Act and CBRE’s Jason Hardman leading a session on the affect of macroeconomics on BTR. A further 18 afternoon sessions provided a wide range of thought-provoking presentations and discussions.

Some 450+ industry stakeholders attended the event, including both UKAA members and non-members. Investors, lenders, developers, operators, suppliers and a range of other parties with an interest in BTR joined together to share expertise, network and uphold the pursuit of excellence within the industry. They also celebrated the launch of the new UKAA Best Practice Guide, which marks a significant moment in the maturation of Build to Rent and a stepping-stone for a future industry-wide Code of Practice.

The conference sessions were followed by dinner, drinks and the UKAA and HomeViews industry awards. These focused attention on BTR excellence in practice, including UKAA Sustainability Champion 2022, Quintain Living, for their Utility Monitoring Tool and Invesco’s Stephanie Smith who was awarded the UKAA Recognition Award 2022 for her contribution to the industry-wide Swift Bunny EDI survey in partnership with the UKAA.

UKAA would like to thank all those who contributed to the huge success of the Annual Build to Rent Conference & Industry Awards 2022, from the hard-working organisers to our sponsors, exhibitors, speakers and attendees. It is fantastic that so many people with a vested interest in the future of BTR can take the time to come together and share their expertise and passion for ensuring the industry is the best that it can possibly be.
