Key findings:

  • The affordability ratio has been rising steeply in the UK, increasing by 2.3% since 2019. 
  • Affordability ratios are affected by both location and income. 
  • By region, renters in London are most stretched (29%), with the North East at the other end of the scale (20.9%). 
  • By city, the affordability ratio is lowest in Derby (23.2%) and highest in London (29.8%).
