Hugely successful UKAA Expo 2023 paves the way for better Build to Rent business
- 500+ delegates attended BTR industry’s biggest trade show
- Green asset management, data intelligence and ESG-focused purchasing decisions all key to future of BTR
- Whole life costing and deep industry insights to support better BTR business
The 2023 UKAA Build to Rent Expo has been hailed as a huge success, with over 500 delegates and 40 exhibitors coming together on 20th April 2023 for the Build to Rent (BTR) industry’s largest trade show.
Led by UKAA – the UK Apartment Association – the event focused on ‘better BTR business’, with thought leaders from across the industry connecting to shape the future of Build to Rent.
An impressive array of topics was explored at the event, which took place at London’s Business Design Centre. HomeViews Co-founder Hannah Marsh kicked off the expert sessions by sharing detailed insights from the 2023 HomeViews and Rightmove Build to Rent report on how the industry is performing for residents.
She was followed by a ‘Call for Leadership’ session, chaired by Sophie Taysom, senior associate at The Good Economy with diverse industry experts coming together to examine how everything from green asset management and sustainability to data intelligence is contributing to ESG-focused purchasing decisions within the BTR industry.
A total of six sessions throughout the day examined other key issues and opportunities impacting Build to Rent investors, operators, and residents. Iain Murray, Senior Director of Cortland Consult, presented an excellent session on whole life costing, with UKAA sharing its costing framework structure with delegates. Additionally, David Tomlinson, Associate of SAY Property Consulting, put optimising net operating income under the spotlight.
The Expo also hosted the popular ‘reverse trade show’ in which BTR purchasers met with suppliers using a speed dating-style format. This has become an essential component of the Expo each year, with both suppliers and operators praising its usefulness as a means of creating new connections.
Further networking took place after the sessions, with a drinks and networking reception providing delegates with the opportunity to take forward the topics of the day. The Expo also saw UKAA CEO Brendan Geraghty and President Lesley Roberts present the UKAA Manifesto as well as announce the winner of the hotly contested FM Fever maintenance challenge session – Ian Jones of HPS Services.
“The huge success of the Build to Rent Expo 2023 would not have been possible without the enormous efforts of so many of our UKAA members, sponsors, speakers, exhibitors and delegates. On behalf of UKAA, I extend my thanks to all those who played a role in making the day such a valuable occasion for everyone focused on doing better Build to Rent business.”
Brendan Geraghty, CEO, UKAA
