Rental housing experts to shine a spotlight on staffing at 2023 International Apartment Forum event

This week, rental housing experts from around the world will pool their insights in a detailed conversation on staffing, facilitated by the US-based National Apartment Association (NAA).

On 24th October 2023, the NAA’s International Apartment Forum will be held via webinar, with hundreds of delegates from 19 countries in attendance. UKAA will play an important role in the discussions, with CEO Brendan Geraghty speaking at the event.

In addition to speaking on behalf of the UK BTR sector, Brendan will be able to draw on experience gleaned from the UKAA’s Australian initiative. The initiative is enabling the sharing of knowledge and best practices and global market alignment between BTR specialists in the UK and Australia.

Increasingly, an internationally-minded approach to BTR is enabling the sector in different countries to elevate its operations, customer focus, approach to environmental, social and governance (ESG) matters and more. Events such as the NAA’s International Apartment Forum support this global agenda.

The key focus of the event will be staffing, with rental housing experts from around the world sharing insights into how they are addressing concerns around staffing, talent acquisition, professional development and all associated topics. Delivered simultaneously in English and Japanese, the event will address specific questions around what employees value, how generational shift impacts talent pools and how widely known career paths are in the rental housing sector. Discussion will also focus around how to promote jobs in the BTR sector, solve staffing shortages and use technology to create recruiting efficiencies.

Attendees will also be able to learn about the role that national associations such as the UKAA can play in addressing staffing concerns within the rental housing sector. Getting staffing right is fundamental to the success of BTR, so the UKAA is keen to hear about international best practice examples in this area to aid with future staffing matters in the UK’s sector.

This is not the UKAA’s first foray into the topic of BTR staffing. The Policy, Research and Education Committee is already working to raise awareness of the issues and provide solutions for staffing and career paths in BTR. This includes working with other sector bodies, including The Property Institute, to discuss staffing matters at a national and international level.

With staffing firmly in the spotlight, UKAA will announce new initiatives to advance discussions in this area shortly.
